COMPLETE WITH WALK-IN RAMP FOR LARGE DOGS AND BOOSTER SHELF FOR SMALL DOGS AND CATS
For several years, we have wanted to purchase and install a new bathing facility for our animals, but every time we thought we had the money, an emergency came up and our priorities changed. This year, thanks to Monsanto Corporation’s “America’s Farmers Grow Communities” program, our wish was granted.
Thanks also to Danny & Melba Hart for entering the contest for the grant and choosing our shelter as recipient. Mr. and Mrs. Hart dedicated the grant in memory of their son Derek and three other young people lost to the Graves County farm community in 2010. The four memorialized by this grant are: Derek Hart; Kyle Burgess; Ean Wooley and Tori Waggoner.
In 2011, we made significant improvements to our shelter, made possible by designated donations. We installed a permanent divider across a little used large room and created a “wet room” for washing bowls and litter pans, and a designated “isolation room” with it’s own heating and cooling system. The wet room eliminates the use of the bathing room for washing bowls. The new isolation room helps in the control of communicable diseases. In addition, we installed an additional washer/gas dryer combination, installed vinyl tile in the kennel hallway, cat playroom and small dog room and ceramic tile in the isolation and wet rooms and had the tree canopy trimmed on the north edge of our property.
These projects were made possible, in large part, by a $5,000 grant from the J. L. & Myoko Wheeler Foundation. Additional funding or materials were provided by the following: Nancy Barger, Tootzz’s Discount Flooring; the Buck Family; Tim & Lisa Larkins and Larry Singleton.
2011 – A GOOD YEAR
